云冈石窟在山西大同，距今已有1500多年的历史。

The Yungang Grottoes, located in Datong, Shanxi Province, China, boast over 1,500 years of history.

　　云冈石窟现存洞窟53个，雕像51000多尊，雕刻面积18000余平方米。各种雕像神态各异，生动逼真。

There are 53 caves and over 51,000 statues remaining in the Yungang Grottoes. The carved surface area exceeds 18,000 square meters. Inside the caves are all kinds of vivid and lifelike statues, each with its own unique expression.

　　这是第五窟。窟内正中央坐着一尊佛像，高17米，是云冈石窟中最大的雕像。这尊佛像，膝盖上可以站立120人，一只脚上可以站立12人。

This is the fifth cave. In the center of the cave sits a 17-meter-tall statue of Buddha, which is the largest statue in the Yungang Grottoes. This statue can accommodate 120 people on its knees, while 12 people can stand on one of its feet.

　　这是第六窟，是云冈石窟的代表。中央是连接窟顶的两层塔柱，窟顶有33尊天神像和各种骑乘。石窟四壁和塔柱上还雕刻着佛祖释迦牟尼传教的故事。

This is the sixth cave, which is considered representative of all the Yungang Grottoes. In the center are two-level pagoda pillars which connect to the cave’s ceiling; the ceiling is carved with 33 deities as well as all kinds of creatures used for riding. On all the walls of the cave and pagoda pillars are also carved with stories of the spiritual teachings of Sakyamuni (Gautama Buddha), the founder of Buddhism.

　　这是第十二窟。正壁上部雕刻着手拿乐器的仙人，他们手中的排箫、箜篌等古典乐器是研究中国古代音乐的重要资料。

This is the twelfth cave. On the front wall, there are carvings of celestial beings holding instruments. The paixiao (an ancient wind instrument, which is a form of panpipes), konghou (an ancient plucked stringed instrument), and other classical instruments in their hands provide important materials for studying ancient Chinese music.

　　第二十窟是一尊露天造像。主佛胸以上部位保存得比较完整。佛像的脸型丰满圆润，双耳垂肩，双目有神，面目慈祥，是云冈石窟中最有代表性的作品。

In front of the twentieth cave lies an open-air statue of the Gautama Buddha, which is well-preserved from the chest up. This Buddha, with a plump and smooth face, large hanging earlobes, a lively gaze, and an expression of warmth and kindness, is the most representative work of art within the Yungang Grottoes.

　　2001年，山西云冈石窟被列入《世界文化遗产名录》。

In 2001, Shanxi’s Yungang Grottoes were listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
