这里是重庆，是中国西南地区的政治、经济、文化中心。1997年，重庆成为中国第四个中央直辖市。

This is Chongqing, the political, economic as well as cultural center in the southwest of China. In 1997, it became the fourth municipality directly under the Central Government of China.

　　重庆四面都是山，山城重庆有三多——弯多、桥多、台阶多。重庆市民每天上下一二百个台阶是很平常的事儿，因此很多重庆人从小到大不会骑自行车。

Chongqing is surrounded by mountains. It is renowned for abundance of three things, tortuous roads, bridges and steps. Climbing hundreds of steps is a daily practice for locals of Chongqing. That also explains why many natives of Chongqing have never been able to ride bicycles.

　　重庆也被称做“江城”。中国的两条大江——长江与嘉陵江在这里交汇。整个城市依山傍水，这种特殊的地形使得重庆冬暖夏热、雾气很重，因此重庆也被称为“火炉”和“雾都”。这种潮湿的气候形成了重庆人喜欢吃麻辣的饮食习惯。

Chongqing is also called "the city of river", where the two major rivers of China, Yangtze River and Jialing River, meet. The whole city is situated at the foot of the mountain and beside the river, which makes it warm in winter and hot in summer, and often surrounded by heavy fog. That’s why Chongqing got its nicknames of "the stove" and "the city of fog". Because of the humid climate the local people of Chongqing like hot and spicy food.

　　重庆还是中国的历史文化名城。巫山龙骨坡遗址、大足石刻、合川钓鱼城等都是国家级重点文物保护单位。

Chongqing is a famous historical and cultural city in China. The relics at Longgupo on Wushan Mountain, Dazu rock carvings, and the fishing castle in Hechuan are all the cultural relics of national importance under the protection of the state.
