华山在陕西省境内，是“五岳”中的“西岳”。华山以雄、险著称，只有一条道路通往山顶，因此有“自古华山一条路”的说法。

Mount Hua, located in Shaanxi Province, is the “Western Mountain” of China’s “Five Sacred Mountains” (also known as “Five Great Mountains”). It is famous for its imposing and precipitous features. As there is only one road which leads to the summit, there is a saying that “Mount Hua has had only one path since ancient times.”

　　登华山从山脚出发，沿山谷向上走，在“青柯坪”的不远处有一块大石头，上面刻着“回心石”三个字，意思是说，体力不好和胆子小的人，到这里就可以回去了。

Starting from the foot of Mount Hua and walking upwards through the valley, you will see a big rock—carved with the Chinese characters hui xin shi (literally meaning “Return Heart Rock”)—located not far from Qingkeping. For people who lack in either courage or physical strength, this rock serves as a reminder to stop and turn around.

　　过了回心石，就来到了华山的要地——千尺幢。千尺幢是一条在山崖上开出的小路，共370多个石阶。石阶宽度只能保证一个人上下。站在台阶上往下看，就像站在深井上一样。爬上千尺幢，再经过两个景点，走到头是“猢狲愁”。连猴子都发愁，可见有多么陡峭。过了猢狲愁就到了华山北峰。

After passing by Huixin Rock, you will come to an important part of Mount Hua—Qianchichuang. Qianchichuang is a small path carved out of the cliff with over 370 stone steps. The narrow stone steps allow for only one person to pass through at a time. Standing on the steps and looking down, you will feel as though you’re standing on the wall inside of a deep well. After climbing up Qianchichuang and continuing on your journey, you will pass two other scenic spots and finally come to a section called Husunchou (literally “Monkeys Worry”). Husunchou is very precipitous; as its name implies, even monkeys would worry about how to climb it. After passing Husunchou, you will reach the North Peak of Mount Hua.

　　除了北峰，华山还有东、西、南、中四峰。东峰，也叫朝阳峰，峰顶上的朝阳台是观看日出的最佳地点。南峰，也叫落雁峰，是华山的主峰，也是华山的最险峰，海拔2083米，有一条在绝壁上开凿出来的栈道，称为华山第一险道。

In addition to the North Peak, Mount Hua has four other peaks: the East Peak, West Peak, South Peak and Central Peak. The East Peak, also called Zhaoyang Peak, has a platform for visitors and is the best spot to view the sunrise. The South Peak, also named Luoyan Peak, has an altitude of 2,083 meters. In addition to being Mount Hua’s main peak, it is also the mountain’s most precipitous summit. The plank road built along the cliff leading to the South Peak is regarded as the most dangerous path on Mount Hua.

　　华山还是道教胜地，山上现存道观20多座。

Mount Hua is also a holy land for Taoism. Today, there are over 20 Taoist temples on the mountain.
