“Series of Teaching Foreigners Chinese
Grammar” is the achievement of “Research and Development of Grammar Syllabus
for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language and Teaching Reference Grammar
Series (Multi-volume)”, a major project of National Social Science Fund of
China presided over by Professor Qi Huyang, which has been selected as the
“2022 Founding Project of National Publication Foundation”. As an important
reference book for international Chinese language education, it aims to build
and improve the “Grammar System of Chinese Teaching” for foreign students to meet
the development needs of the new era. It mainly serves the front-line Chinese
teachers, researchers, graduate students and undergraduates majoring in
Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages. This series consists of 39
volumes, including 4 outline series, 26 book series, 8 summary series, and 1
collection of essays.

Measuring or coding with numerals is
important in daily life and even for teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
This book explores the categories and structures of Chinese numerals, as well
as the characteristics, usage and acquisition of numeral-related expressions in
a more comprehensive way, which focuses on the norms relevant to numeral-related
expressions and common errors in written compositions of international
students, the cultural phenomena of numerals such as the preferred numeral
figures in Chinese and the special meanings of certain numeral, and the main
principles and methods of teaching numerals in Chinese as a foreign language.
This book provides certain references for the ontological study of Chinese numerals
and the teaching of numerals.
Li Jingrong has a PhD in Linguistics and
Applied Linguistics from Shanghai Normal University (SHNU), and is a professor
and doctoral supervisor at the SHNU International College of Chinese Studies.
His research mainly focuses on functional linguistics, Chinese grammar and
international Chinese language education. Professor Li has presided over and
completed four national and provincial projects, published five books and
textbooks, and more than 50 papers in ZHONGGUOYUWEN, Chinese Teaching
in the World and other specialized academic journals.
Zhong
Xiaoyong has a PhD in Chinese Language and Literature from the Department of
Chinese Language and Literature, Fudan University, and is an associate professor
at the College of Humanities, Hangzhou Normal University. His research mainly
focuses on modern Chinese grammar and teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
Professor Zhong has presided over two projects under the National Social
Science Fund of China, and published three books and a number of essays in the
journals of ZHONGGUOYUWEN, Chinese Teaching in the World, and
other journals.
Adopting a holistic overview and a problem-oriented
approach, this book introduces numerals from four aspects: theoretical
knowledge of numerals, usage of numbers, numeral culture, and the teaching of
numerals, seeking to embody the three basic principles as a teaching reference
book: popularity, relevance, and practicality.
