"Building Basic Platform for Chinese Language and Characters” is a project co-developed by Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) and Beijing Municipal Commission of Education and led by President of BLCU Prof. Cui Xiliang. Compiling the achievements of this project, this book series consists of five volumes: Phonetics and Characters, Lexicology, Grammar, Dialect and History of Chinese Language.

Cui Xiliang is President of Beijing Language and Culture University. He is also the Professor of linguistics and applied linguistics and Supervisor of PhD. students. In addition, Prof. Cui is the Executive Council Member of Chinese Language Society and the International Society for Chinese Language Teaching, Vice President of Beijing Language Society. With research interests in modern Chinese grammar and Chinese idioms, he has published books such as Chinese Idioms and Chinese Humanistic Inner World and Language Understanding and Cognition. He won the title of the "Top-notch Young Teacher of Beijing Institutions of Higher Learning" and was selected as a Ministry of Education (MOE) Trans-Century Talent.
