Reading is the most basic skill in the teaching and learning of a foreign language. It directly restricts the improving of the listening, speaking, and writing skills as well as theincrease of the learners’ knowledge of a foreign language. The common problems for foreign language learners are lack of vocabulary, difficulty in understanding andslow speed in reading. Based on the research results of rules of reading and relatedpsychological phenomena such as the internal and external processes, discourse understanding, memory, schema theory, reading models in the field of psychology,the book reveals the rules of cognition, thoroughly discusses the realistic meaning and application of these theories in the teaching of reading, wherewith to push the reform inforeign language teaching and reading teaching in order to enhance the efficiency in foreign language teaching and reading teaching.
