Based
on the physical nature of language, this book introduces the prosodic feature
of human language in terms of the height, strength, and length of a voice. It
organizes and classifies the formation means of different languages from the
perspectives of the segments and super-segments of the voice. On this basis,
through analyzing the interactions between the prosodic and form of Chinese, it
proposes that the prosodic components of super-segments of a voice, such as the
height, strength and length of a voice, are also important formation means and
are as same as the consonants and vowels of segments. Chinese is a kind of
language which has and even is rich in prosodic form. At the same time, the
cross-linguistic phenomena show that prosodic form is not the unique feature of
Chinese, but the generality of human language. The studies of the prosodic form
of language are going to be comprehensively developed.
