Using the development
of Saudi Arabi female literature since the middle of last century as the
background, this book uses narratology theory to make a systematic, further and
thorough introduction of Rajā'
Muhammad'ālim and her representative work, The
Dove Collar, a work which won the International Prize for Arabic Fiction in
2011. Born in Mecca, Rajā' Muhammad'ālim was deeply influenced by the tradition
of Arabian Peninsula, and she received systematic education of Western
Literature. Through analyzing the plot structure, the portrayal of the
characters, the mechanism of time and space and other narrative skills, this
book demonstrates the writer's modernity and internationalism in literary
creation, and changes people's stereotype of Arab female literature, especially
that of Saudi Arabi female literature. Rajā' Muhammad'ālim presents another voice reflecting history
and politics, rather than a unidirectional, linear narration.
